LENGTH OF TIME:  One quarter (60/65 minutes every day)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: In 7th grade art, students will further develop their understanding of the design elements and principles to enhance awareness of how visual artists successfully communicate their ideas.

ESSENTIAL OUTCOMES:

REPORTING STANDARD: Historical and cultural context

  1. Students will develop basic understanding of the Pop Art movement and how it impacted society/lifestyle.

REPORTING STANDARD: Techniques and processes

  1. Students will identify and demonstrate understanding of value contrast by creating a variety of scales using different media.

  2. Students will apply proper grid technique to resize or copy an image with proportional accuracy.

  3. Students will create illusion of 3 dimensional forms on a 2 dimensional surface using value contrast (shading).

  4. Students will identify, define and implement a vanishing point, horizon line, horizontal lines, vertical lines and orthogonal lines.

  5. Students will observe and identify tints, tones and shades.

  6. Students will organize colors into the following groups: primary colors, secondary colors, intermediate colors, warm colors, cool colors, and monochromatic, analogous, and complementary color schemes.

  7. Students will demonstrate successful techniques and procedures to construct a face sculpture.

  8. Students will identify accurate proportions of the human body.

  9. Students will create gesture drawings of the human body in motion.

  10. Students will develop basic understanding of Photoshop Elements software and will understand and apply how to take digital pictures and scan them into the computer.

  11. Students will use tools in software to place images into their perspective room drawings

  1. Students will demonstrate successful techniques, procedures and creative ideas to create an original work of art in one point perspective.

  2. Students will create an original work of art choosing from 3 different color schemes.

  3. Students will create original works of art using various found materials, computer technology and perspective drawing.

  1. Students will develop and enhance observational skills.

  2. Students will identify which problem solving and creative thinking strategies were used to improve or vary their own personal artwork.

  3. Students will critique their finished artwork and explain the design elements and principles used.

COURSE/SUBJECT TITLE: General Music

GRADE LEVEL: 7th

LENGTH OF TIME: One Quarter (60/65 minutes every other day)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students in 7th grade music continue to have an experiential music class with a larger written work component.  Students work on more advanced vocabulary, rhythm (which includes polyrhythm), vocal part-singing (including harmony), music theory, music history, music analysis, introduction to music technology, and improvisation/ composition.  Students work on a large writing project (3-part) on their favorite song, incorporating all of the musical elements and listening skills learned.  Students will work on composition and improvisation in 2-3 following forms: tone poems, school song, or technology based compositions.  Students continue to work with guitars, percussion, and also keyboards to create their final project, which include a performance aspect.  The emphasis is on world music and student choice.

ESSENTIAL OUTCOMES:

REPORTING STANDARD: Listening and Movement

  1. Students will identify and demonstrate the following rhythms: quarter note, eighth note, quarter rest, half note, half rest, all combinations of sixteenth notes (dotted, etc), and syncopated eighth note and quarter note patterns.  Students will be able to demonstrate basic conducting patterns and be able to speak rhythm over the conducting patterns (eurhythmics).

  2. Students will be able to recognize patterns /songs through solfege independently.

  3. Students will continue to actively listen and evaluate a variety of music using musical language, description, and eurhythmics. Students will also be able to assess themselves and others on the musical elements.

REPORTING STANDARD: Literacy

  1. Students will understand and demonstrate the solfege scale up and down with hand signs in both major and minor keys.

  2. Students will be able to analyze musical elements within the songs.  This will include elements such as: tempo, dynamics, style, history, meter, tempo, form, and modality, instrumentation and mood.

REPORTING STANDARD: Creating and making music

  1. Students will be able to sing and play rhythm instruments on a varied repertoire of music in unison, rounds, partner songs, and ostinatos.

  2. Students will demonstrate understanding of music theory using I IV V in all diatonic keys.  Students will be able to identify and read these chords then apply them to the guitar or piano while singing.

  3. Students will create a musical composition using a variety of instruments and/or technology.  Students will perform their compositions in small groups.  Each student will demonstrate understanding of song components through the written and performance assessment/evaluation rubric.

COURSE/SUBJECT TITLE: Family and Consumer Sciences

GRADE LEVEL: 7th

LENGTH OF TIME: One Quarter (60/65 minutes every other day)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The seventh grade FCS class focuses on childcare and responsible babysitting techniques but also includes a simple sewing machine project when time allows. All FCS classes provide opportunities for students to learn practical life skills that improve the well being of individuals and families.  The units covered are:

UNIT #1: Child Care Basics

UNIT #2: Basic Sewing Machine Use (if time allows)
