COURSE/SUBJECT TITLE: Language Arts
LENGTH OF TIME: Full Year (60/65 minutes every day)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Glencoe Literature Course Two forms the core of the reading curriculum for seventh-grade language arts. The anthology integrates fiction and nonfiction
texts and engages students in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. An independent reading program is also a component of language arts for 7th graders; students are required to respond in writing to the books they are reading independently. Supplemental reading materials such as novels, poetry, short stories, textbooks, and magazines are also read.
Also within this course, there is an emphasis on the practice of writing, building upon the 6+1 Traits foundation from previous years. The focus is on crafting well-organized constructed responses and essays to support claims, examine topics, and share ideas both real and imaginary.
